Following years of playing in and out of many bands, it was while Tyler lived in the West Chester PA area during the mid to late 1970s that he was alcoholically, substancetively, and
theoretically trained at Beam's Music in Exton, PA by Mike Rubin, cool guitarist for "The Jack Daniels Blues Band" and known in rock and jazz circles for his mastery of technique and modes.
Tyler followed that up with a brief study review at West Chester Music with John Lilley, guitarist for "The Hooters".
Seizing his new musical perspective, he tirelessly worked it into his technique and skills for the next couple years formulating a playing, writing, arranging, and recording style that
designed each song to have "improvisational interaction" - while his songs would remain true to form and function, each live performance of the song's solo(s) may be played differently.
This song writing style enabled Tyler to share and explore his works at sessions with many of the regions musicians on a revolving basis at Charlie's, a drummer friend in Exton PA.
In 1982, while living in Upper Darby PA, Tyler conceived the names
LAVA Records
and Volcano Publishing for his original song's record label and publishing companies. In July of 1986, Lava Records
and Volcano Publishing were legally established in the State of Pennsylvania. It was during this period until the late 1990s that Tyler further refined and developed his writing style and
recording abilities while producing many of his seminal works at Lava Records Studio.
From 2003 through 2014 Tyler was guitarist for SNAP Jazz Band performing gems from the Great American Songbook in concert at many well-respected venues & festivals throughout the Philadelphia region.
Tyler is again producing new original rock and blues songs and videos, now in Key Largo Florida, which can be heard and viewed on his
Reverb Nation page and on his
YouTube channel along side his SNAP Jazz Band concert videos and sponsored original works by members of the organization he founded to help and promote original songwriting, The Milford Songwriters Workshop in Milford, PA.
Tyler can be seen playing lead guitar in the Upper Keys Sailing Club's Tuesday night house band with band mates Pat McLaughlin on guitar and vocals (formerly of the "Run Aground Crew") and Kyle Christoffel on keyboards, and area musicians like Scott on guitar and percussion, and songwriter Jim "Fish" Enright on guitar and vocals occasionally sitting in.
